The village itself is delightful and has a river running through the centre. Many of the local ladies can be seen sitting n the main street making their tapestries. The town town square with it’s statue of El Greco, sculptures, town hall and very old, beautiful tree is the centre for many local festivities including weddings. There are a numerous taverns to suit all tastes, a bakery, a butcher, a doctor and pharmacy and 3 small supermarkets to cover all essentials.The locals are incredibly friendly and cannot do enough to help.

Local churches, the Museum to El Greco, a play area (swings etc) and beautiful walks enhance the charm of this delightful village.

Fodele is approximately a 25 minute drive from Heraklion Airport, just off the main Heraklion – Chania highway. Fodele beach is 3km from the village.  At the beach, upon purchase of an orange juice (or something stronger) sun beds are provided free for the day.  Orange juice, Raki and Olive Oil are local specialities and are worth trying (beware of the Raki).
